We the students of the fifth grade, in order to create the best academic environment, declare independence from the problems that have been hurting our education.
As students, we care deeply about our education, so we are determined to put an end to the distractions, rudeness and bullying that take place in our classrooms.
There was a time when our class was a much better learning environment. Students who cared about their education were free from distractions and were able to do well. We the students of the fifth grade are determined to get back to a situation like this, one free from distractions.
We feel that the students in the classroom who show these negative behaviors, do not have the right to hurt our education. We feel that it is the job of the school, the teachers, the principals and the students to stand up for our educational rights. No one has the right to hurt our education.
We declare these truths to be clear, that all students have equal educational rights that no one has a right to take away. All students have the right to
- learn in a safe classroom where we feel free to be in control of our education
- learn in a peaceful learning environment where we can become the best
- learn in a respectful classroom where we are free from bullying
The students in our classroom do not have the right to get in the way of our educational rights. The students who demonstrate negative behaviors have hurt us in the following ways.
1) They distract us and hurt our educations by calling out and interrupting the class.
2) They harass us by yelling at us and teasing us.
3) They refuse to let our teachers teach us and work with us. They take up most of their time.
4) They make our classroom a loud place to learn.
5) They talk back to adults and classmates and disrespect them.
6) They trash our room and refuse to take care of it.
7) They refuse to do work when they are asked to work.
8) They continue to make things worse for themselves and their education.
9) They continue to be disruptive until they get what they want.
As students here at Propel we have tried to do the right thing. We have tried to ask these students to stop their negative behaviors but they have refused to stop.
The teachers here at Propel have tried to get these behaviors to stop, but they have refused to stop.
The principals at Propel have tried to get these behaviors to stop, but they continue.
We the citizens of the NEW EDUCATION CITY will no longer allow these things to happen and we are declaring our independence from these behaviors.
1) We pledge that we will stand up in a nice way to those who get in the way of our education. We will do our best to try to help them.
2) If their behaviors continue after we have tried to stand up to them and help them, then we pledge that we will stand up as a group to these behaviors.
3) If they still refuse to stop these behaviors we believe that we have the right to and we pledge to leave the area that the behaviors are happening and learn elsewhere.
These are our rights…and we are free to take control of our own educations.
